Corcaghan Hub

Corcaghan Hub

Enabling a community

It may be one of the better kept secrets in the network of Monaghan Hubs, but the facility at Corcaghan is about to come out of the shadows.

Welcoming the opportunity to live close to where their heart is while still managing their Stateside business is Brendan Duffy, President of New York based Duffy’s Floor Services.

Having returned with his family in recent times to the county, Brendan said that reliable Internet “absolutely” is a factor when making such decisions.

“The connectivity is so important when you are trying to run a business from this side of the Atlantic.  You need it for email or, in our business, it is important to be able to share and upload pictures and videos.  So reliable connectivity is an absolute requirement.”

Having access hot desks on a casual use basis is another factor for startups and established businesses.

Brendan said, “for someone like me who is trying to figure out do I need an actual office, having this Hub means I can use a hot desk or even an office here as a I need it and without the expense of renting a permanent premises and all the associated running costs.”

A regular user of one of the meeting rooms is Ross MacDonald.  “I have used the room primarily for meetings of a steering committee I am on.  Some people join us remotely as they can’t join in person so to have a space that is big enough and with the technology and the security to allow the meetings to go ahead, is fantastic.”

On the days of those meetings, there is ample free car parking and refreshments can be prepared in the onsite kitchen or, a two minute stroll to the other end of the village, is The Coffee Pod at Hughie’s where tasty homemade treats and toasties are among the offerings.

Peadar McGuinness, who manages the Hub “having the centre here, and the Hub, give the local community options to work in the community and they have the flexibility of a hot desk whenever they need it and easy access to a private room for calls or meetings,” he added.

SLEL IT services founder Pat McElvaney said, “for someone who is self-employed as I am, the Hub means that you get to work alongside other people even though you are not working with them.  That wee bit of interaction can help you stay motivated and happy.”

“From a practical point of view, I am not going to bring customers into my home for a meeting so having the facilities here where there is a big screen and webcam, means I can have a proper meeting instead of a group of people all huddled around a laptop.”

Among the many nearby facilities is Rossmore Park, one of Ireland’s most popular with walks, trails, and a fascinating history.
